APSU in Scotland & England- Physical Geology

Travel in Summer 2024: May 20 - 31

Program Overview

Earn 3 general education science credits and spend 11 days on an expedition across Scotland! Come and learn about Physical Geology by observing world-class geologic formations, and explore the relationships between geology and human history. We’ll meet weekly throughout the Spring semester and travel to Scotland in May. Students will also enroll in a lab section during the Spring semester.

The course will be built around a series of activities designed to develop the ability to recognize scientific novelty, and to make and record observations. These activities invite students to begin developing their observational skills by evaluating archival materials generated by pioneering Scottish geologists. These exercises will also help students develop a "sense of place" for the world-class locations they are visiting. Helping students develop a sense of place is a proven pedagogical approach that deepens the connection students have with course materials (Kudryavtsev et al., 2014).
 

Credit Hours and Course

The program will include two unique courses that will be cross-listed and run together: GEOL 1040 Physical Geology, and GEOL 4550 Advance Topics in Geology.

Application Fee: $280


This non-refundable application fee will be charged to the student's account once the student authorizes the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange during the application process.

Tuition: $959.35

This tuition is based on 3 credit hours ($876+$83.35 Program Fee). Tuition is due prior to departure and will be billed to the student's account after registration.
