Program Overview

Come experience the beauty, history, and culture of the UK with APSU during Spring Break. This course will take students to London with an optional day trip to Paris, France.  We begin with prehistory at Stonehenge, through the Roman founding of “Londinium”, and continue to modern times at the fictional home of Sherlock Holmes on Baker Street. At the Tower of London we will see where monarchs kept and tortured important enemies and where Henry VIII had two of his wives beheaded.  In East London we will walk the streets and alleys where the world’s most famous serial killer, Jack the Ripper, stalked his victims. At the Old Bailey we will witness a functioning Crown criminal court.  In Westminster we will visit the underground bunker where Churchill led during the Battle of Britain.  We will see one of the only surviving copies of the Magna Carta, the documentary forefather of our own Bill of Rights, at the British Library. In the British Museum we will see the spoils of war of centuries of British imperialism, including mummies from Egypt and the Rosetta Stone.
