Austria Exchange

Program Overview

Improve your German and earn credit towards your degree while studying at Klagenfurt University, a world-class university with many programs designed to support international students. You will live as an Austrian during your time abroad, getting a taste of real schnitzel while developing a love for the local history and culture. Don't miss this opportunity to spend your free time relaxing on the serene banks of Lake Worther or exploring hiking trails in the Alps.

General Steps

  • Students must FIRST meet with us. Please call us at 931-221-6851 to make an appointment.
  • Students must also meet with the APSU Exchange Program Faculty Coordinator (contact below).
  • Complete the application process at the host institution and/or third party provider.
  • Complete the APSU study abroad online application.
  • Register for classes at APSU and at the host institution.
  • Pay tuition ONLY here at APSU.
  • Pay for housing and meals at the host institution
  • Do your semester abroad! 


12-18 credit-hours per semester


Intermediate German I; Intermediate German II; Advanced Composition in German; Phonetics and Conversation in German; German Civilization, Culture and Geography I; German Civilization, Culture and Geography II

Lodging and Meals

The University of Klagenfurt offers several housing options, including double-room accommodations and single-room accommodations. You will either have a kitchenette in your room or share a communal kitchen with other students. If you prefer to have meals prepared for you, the University of Klagenfurt cafeteria provides meal options during main dining hours.

Financial Aid 

Your current scholarships and financial aid may apply toward the cost of the program. If you plan on using financial aid you need to call the Office of Student Financial Aid at (931) 221-7907 to schedule an appointment with a study abroad counselor.
