Program Description:
Study across an island divided by a border, but joined in history. The program takes you to both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. From Dublin, the capital of the Republic, we’ll uncover the cultural significance behind Glendalough, Trinity College and places made famous by such writers as James Joyce and Jonathan Swift. Then we’ll head to Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom), tracking the history of Ireland, ancient and modern, stopping at the magnificent coastal World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway, and visiting locations associated more recently with the Troubles in Belfast and Derry. Then it’s off to the beauty of the mountains, valleys and islands of the West of Ireland where Gaelic and traditional music can still be heard. Discover the beauty and the tragedy, the history and the hope that define this land still struggling to be united.
The schedule, subject to change, includes stays in Dublin, Belfast, Derry and Sligo (or nearby), and a city in west Ireland. Included are day trips to locations such as Glendalough and Aran Islands.

The price of this CCSA program includes:
Participants will reside in single ensuite rooms at Marino Institute in Dublin and in hotels while traveling from the east to west coast of Ireland. Hotel accommodations are based primarily on double occupancy with occasional use of triple rooms. Singles may be available at an additional cost.

Celtic Heritage to Irish Nationalism: Reading the Irish Landscape in Art and Architecture
Course Description: If you enjoy exploring sublime and picturesque landscapes, art museums, and medieval ruins, join this journey through Ireland’s mythical and historical past. Designed for students with interests in art, architecture, landscape, and history, this class examines the work of artists and architects who rendered Ireland’s landscape(s) in paintings, prints, drawings, and constructed environments from the Middle Ages to the early 1900s. Readings will inform visits to museums in Dublin and Belfast, gardens and parks, ruined abbeys and monasteries, the Cliffs of Moher, the Giant’s Causeway and the bogs of Connemara.
Prerequisite: Art appreciation or art history survey course.
Travel Writing! Intercultural Communication in Ireland
Course Description: Come explore Ireland while developing travel writing skills! We’ll develop an observant eye at Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College’s Book of Kells, and Dublin Castle, and in Belfast at the Titanic Museum. You will learn to select story-worthy facts as you explore natural wonders like the Giant’s Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher, while the Aran Islands will inspire your writing. You’ll experience the Guinness Brewery, Dublin Farmer’s Market, traditional Irish weaving, and a working Irish sheepdog demonstration. Through this Irish journey, you’ll develop your skills in observation, description, and multimedia storytelling as you write travel blogs, short features, and multimedia stories.
Prerequisite: Junior standing or permission of the instructor.
Course Description: Anyone considering a career in healthcare will gain valuable experience in this class comparing American and Irish healthcare systems, including such topics as educational preparation, the Irish healthcare team system, the health concerns of Ireland’s vulnerable populations, and health indicators. Visiting healthcare locations such as Bon Secours hospital in Galway and Newtownpark House Nursing Home and Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin, we will interact with both providers and consumers of healthcare to deepen participants’ understanding of how Irish and American health systems compare, while visiting historical sites to expand participants’ knowledge of how historical and cultural beliefs influence health practices.
International Human Resource Management in Ireland
Course Description: Explore the “people side” of business in Ireland and Northern Ireland by joining this class in human resource management from an international perspective. We will examine the human resource landscape by meeting with education and government representatives and visiting businesses across several industries, including manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, and agriculture. Understanding the historical and cultural context for Irish social and political policies in human resource management will be gained through visits to such varied sites as Trinity College in Dublin and the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. You will benefit from adding this international experience to your qualifications in business and human resource management.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Business and Organizations.
