Costa Rica Summer

Summer • Biology • Open to all Majors • Undergraduate & Graduate

Program Overview

Experience tropical ecosystems in Costa Rica, visiting lowland rainforest at La Selva, cloud forest at Monte Verde, dry forest at Santa Rosa, and coastal beaches (Manuel Antonio Reserve and Playa Hermosa), while encountering the biodiversity of these ecosystems. Learn about plants and animals of Costa Rica, their ecology, and their conservation concerns while participating in activities such as guided natural history hikes (both day and night hikes), a river boat tour, bat mist-netting, and seminars on important topics such as amphibian decline. View firsthand sustainable and fair-trade farming practices on a coffee farm, see how chocolate is made, and learn about the impacts of ecotourism and carbon offset programs. On the side, enjoy cultural experiences such as a cooking class,  a dance class, and overnight stays with local family (2 nights) as well as recreational activities such as a canopy walk or zip lining. Come explore tropical ecology, biodiversity, and conservation during 17 days in Costa Rica!
