Outside of New York City, London is the advertising and marketing capital of the world and certainly the leader in European advertising. This course will examine how advertising and public relations practice in London differs from the United States through in-country study of print, broadcast, cinema, and out-of-home advertising and visits to advertising and public relations agencies as well as popular culture museums. If you've ever seen a TV show featuring European ads, you know they're edgier than what we see in the U.S. This course will help you understand why and how that happens.
Prerequisite: an introductory course in communication, advertising, public relations, or marketing is preferred.
With the City of London as your classroom, discover the fascinating world of business innovation, imagination, and invention as we meet with successful business leaders, discover how culture and tradition affect business decisions and how these entrepreneurs think, work, and achieve success. You will visit revolutionary companies such as Bloomberg and PaveGen and interact with their executives. Learn how world-class retailers like Selfridges shattered conventional business models and cultural norms. Discover the world of high-end shopping at Fortnum and Mason, Harrod's and Harvey Nichols. Visit Warner Brothers Studios and see first-hand the business of Harry Potter, and so much more!
