APSU in Belize

Belize

Marine Biology • Undergraduate & Graduate Courses

Dates: July 14 - 22, 2024

Program Overview

Journeys to rival those of Indiana Jones wait for you in Belize. Belize has everything you need for adventure, from untouched jungles with exotic plants and animals to Mayan ruins - plus, it’s on the Caribbean Sea, giving students the opportunity to see corals, dolphins, turtles, and even barracudas! You will spend 10 days there, nine on an island off the mainland, and one on the mainland. The trip will be organized by APSU in cooperation with the Belize Marine TREC, a marine biodiversity conservation and research organization on the island of Ambergris Caye. Your main destination will be Ambergris Caye, an island decorated with coconut trees and surrounded by crystal blue water. The island location is also perfect for snorkeling, as it’s just a few feet away from the second largest coral reef in the world. Your days in Belize will be filled with open ocean adventures, including boat trips, snorkeling, and dolphin chasing. Go back in time as you visit Lamani, a Mayan ruin in Belize, where you will learn about Belize’s history as the center of the Mayan world.

Belize is an English-speaking country, so no foreign language is necessary.

Note: The ability to swim is crucial, as the majority of this course will take place at sea. Snorkeling experience may be beneficial to the student, but it is not required.
